Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools
Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools serve all of Mecklenburg County and have over 90,000 students in more than 120 schools. Charlotte Mecklenburg School Superintendant Eric Smith has initiated many new programs aimed at continuing the increase in standardized test scores.

Magnet schools are schools for all grades K-12 that offer specialized programs in addition to the regular curriculum. Some examples are: Global Studies; Visual and Performing Arts; Language Immersion (including Spanish, French and German); Year Round Schools; Math and Science/Technology; and International Baccalaureate, to name just a few. Magnet schools are no additional charge, and students are picked through a lottery system each Spring.

The new Governors Village schools have just opened in the University Research Park area and will consist of a campus of 2 elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.
